The Currimjee Foundation, in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Friends of the Environment, has since 2015 launched the Citadelle Native Re-vegetation Project at the Petite-Montagne to restore the native biodiversity surrounding the fort.
2018 will set the culmination of a three-year project involving the planting of more than 3,000 plants over an area of one hectare on the northern flanks of the hill. To date, more than 1,700 trees have been planted with the help of more than 500 Currimjee eco-volunteers, including 256 Emtel employees, who worked closely with Friends of the Environment to ensure the project’s success. With the reconstruction of its endemic forest, the Citadelle will become the green lungs of the city while offering a breathtaking view to visitors.
